Recently, my husband and I were driving home in the dark on a rainy night. We noticed how difficult it was to see the lines on the road. There were the overhead lights lining the side of the highway, the reflectors lining the side of the road, and the glare coming off the pavement from the rain. All of this created so much shine that it was really difficult to see. Our response? Slow down.
The holiday season brings a lot of shimmer and shine, too. Not only in the glitter bows
and twinkling lights but also through the unspoken expectation that we be shimmery
and shiny. That song, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year?” Well, yes…and no.
Sometimes there’s just too much of a good thing this time of year. Sometimes there’s
just too much shine. Our response? Slow down.
The challenge for us is to remember that the Light came in the darkness—a single light,
the single Light. Not to overwhelm, but to overcome.
If you are feeling overwhelmed this time of year, I invite you to sit still with a single light
and to know that is enough. Slow down. We do not need all the shimmer and glitter. It
can blind us to the One who is the Light.
Blessings to you,
Stacey
